ABOUT PRINCE RUPERT

Welcome to Prince Rupert!

Located 450 air miles North of Vancouver but easily accessible by air, sea, rail or modern highway, Prince Rupert is a dynamic culturally diverse community of approximately 12,000 people today. Surrounded by some of the world’s most spectacular scenery and scarcely touched wilderness the city’s character reflects its cosmopolitan population and history – its still alive and well First Nations culture – its role in the turn of the century railway boom that resulted in the founding of the city – its history as a major fishing port – its strategic contribution to the war effort during WW 2 – its current efforts to position itself in the Global Marketplace.

Today, with the reputation of being the friendliest city in Canada we enjoy (thanks to the Japanese Current) a moderate climate with clean air and an abundance of fresh water, affordable housing, “rush minute” traffic conditions, easy and low cost access to world class fishing and hunting, a challenging 18 hole golf course, a Performing Arts Centre (that would be the envy of any community!), a wide range of medical services, excellent educational facilities from K to 2nd year Arts at Northwest community College, and a plethora of fine restaurants to tempt any palate – all this without black flies or mosquitos!!

Enjoy your visit to Prince Rupert – it’s easy to reach
– you may, however, find it hard to leave!
